There are countless parks in Sapporo, with famous ones that tourists visit, ones with long walking paths, and more. They vary in size and purpose. Today, we will introduce Shojikahan Park. It's a park that is well-known to the public!
Shoji Riverside Park is a long, narrow park along the Shoji River that flows between Nakanoshima and Hiragishi in Toyohira Ward. If you walk along Shiroishi-Moiwa-dori from Minamihiragishi Station on the Namboku Subway Line toward Mount Moiwa, you will see the entrance to the park in about 10 minutes. The landmark is a sign that says "Shoji Riverside Park."
The Shoji River has been selected as one of the "Sapporo Hometown Culture 100 Selections" and the "Japan Society of Civil Engineers Design Award" and has no concrete banks. As you walk along this beautiful river in its natural state through Shoji Riverside Park, your senses are heightened by the sound of the water's stream, the sunlight filtering through the trees, and the rich green scent.
The park is surrounded by residential areas, and there are busy roads at its entrance and exit, but there is a mysterious sense of peace and tranquility that makes you feel separated from the hustle and bustle.
Shoji Riverside Park, with its 900m walking path on either side of the river, is colored with different colors depending on the season, such as cherry blossoms in spring and ginkgo trees in autumn. In winter, it is difficult to walk because of the deep snow, but it is a popular walking course for local people, so just follow the footprints of others.
Also, if you look into the Shojin River during the early autumn season, you might be able to see cherry salmon swimming upstream. To come across such a scene in a place surrounded by residential areas is truly Hokkaido!
Shoji Riverside Park also has a small waterfall. If you climb the stairs next to the waterfall, you will soon come to Tenjinyama Green Space.
If you enter Shojikahan Park from the waterfall entrance, the nearest station is Sumikawa Station on the Namboku subway line. It's amazing to think that just a short walk from the subway station will bring you to such a park rich in nature.
When you want to escape from the mundane daily routine, you'll surely find it relaxing and refreshing.
