A Straight Road to the Sky! The Breathtaking Hokkaido Scenery of the 'Road to Heaven'
The Road to Heaven is located about a 15-minute drive from JR Shiretoko-Shari Station. It's a straight road connecting National Routes 334/244 and a prefectural road, stretching for about 28 km. The eastern starting point is at an elevation of about 120 meters. Looking down from there, it appears as if the single road is being drawn straight into the sky. The name "Road to Heaven" certainly fits it perfectly.

The starting point was developed in 2018, with a new parking lot for eight cars and a simple observation deck. Parking is free, but please note that there are no restrooms or other facilities in the vicinity.

Standing on the simple deck puts you in the perfect position for taking photos. A refreshing shot on a clear day is great, but for those who want to capture a more magical scene, aiming for the sunset hours is highly recommended.

Especially around the autumnal equinox, you can witness the moment the sun sets right at the end of the Road to Heaven. It's as if the road is being swallowed by the setting sun, a sight so breathtaking you might forget to breathe.

A short way down the road from the starting point is the "Road to Heaven Observation Deck." There is also a parking space here, so if you'd like to take photos from the observation deck, why not stop by?

The Road to Heaven was once a hidden gem known only among motorcycle riders. Indeed, riding a motorcycle down this straight road must be an exhilarating experience unlike any other.
Of course, you don't have to be a rider to appreciate this view. It's a uniquely Hokkaido experience that is sure to remain in your heart forever.
