Enjoy the rich food of Tsurui Village and the great outdoors of the Kushiro Marsh! [Workcation with Children Day 2]

I don't want to give up both the precious time I spend with my family and the responsibility and rewarding work I have. This report is about the monitor tour of "Workcation with Children" in Tsurui Village, Hokkaido, which is recommended for people like me! On the second day, enjoy the local cuisine while experiencing the vast nature of the Kushiro Wetlands that spread across Tsurui Village! The participants in this monitor tour were the Niioka family, who live in Sapporo City: mother Yui, father Yukio, and their son Kanata (age 4). The second day of the monitor tour has begun!

Come see, learn, and observe Japan's largest wetland, the Kushiro Wetlands!

On the second day, let's start by observing the mysterious nature of the Kushiro Wetlands, a Ramsar Convention registered wetland that spans Tsurui Village, Shibecha Town, Kushiro City, and Kushiro Town! First, head to the Onnenai Visitor Center. This is an information station where you can learn about the marshland as it changes with the seasons, so be sure to gather information about the plants and animals that interest you.

Once you've gathered all the information and left the building, you'll find yourself on a boardwalk! There are many walking trails available for enjoying the Kushiro Wetlands, including a barrier-free course that starts from the visitor center and goes around in about 2 km, and a course that goes around in about 3.1 km, so choose a route that suits your physical condition and mood.

Walking along the boardwalk

This time we chose a course that walks along a barrier-free boardwalk. There are signs posted here and there that tell you how deep the marsh is and about seasonal plants, so you can have fun while learning about the marsh.

It might be fun to download an app onto your smartphone or tablet that can tell you the names of plants and look them up as you walk.

The forest area of Tsurui Village is about 64% of the entire village. In addition to the thriving forestry industry, the village has also developed an environment where people can experience the forest. We especially recommend walking along the forest roads. It's also a wonderful accommodation where you can interact with goats, something you don't normally get to do often, so we highly recommend it.
