See, Learn, and Observe Japan's Largest Wetland, the Kushiro Wetland!
Let's start Day 2 by observing the mystical nature of the Kushiro Wetland, a Ramsar Convention registered site that spans Tsurui Village, Shibecha Town, Kushiro City, and Kushiro Town!
First, we head to the Onnenai Visitor Center. This is an information station where you can learn about the wetland as it changes with the seasons, so let's gather information about plants and animals that catch your interest.

Onnenai Visitor Center
After gathering information and stepping out of the building, you'll immediately find a wooden boardwalk!
There are well-maintained walking paths for enjoying the Kushiro Wetland, including a barrier-free course of about 2 km and a course of about 3.1 km, both starting from the visitor center. You can choose a route that suits your physical condition and mood.

This time, we chose the barrier-free boardwalk course. There are signs here and there that tell you about the depth of the wetland and describe the seasonal plants, allowing you to learn about the wetland while you enjoy it.

It might also be fun to install a plant identification app on your smartphone or tablet and look up plants as you walk.

About 64% of Tsurui Village is covered by forests. In addition to a thriving forestry industry, the village has developed environments for people to connect with the forests. We especially recommend strolling on the forest roads. You can enjoy them by walking or cycling.
