Savor Tsurui Village's Rich Cuisine and the Grand Nature of Kushiro Wetland! [Fun Workation with Kids, Day 2]

You don't want to give up on either cherished family time or a responsible, rewarding job. For those who feel this way, we recommend a "Fun Workation with Kids" in Tsurui Village, Hokkaido. Here's a report from our trial tour! On Day 2, let's enjoy local gourmet food while experiencing the great outdoors of the Kushiro Wetland, which stretches across Tsurui Village!

Participating in this trial tour is the Niioka family from Sapporo. The family of three includes the mother, Yui, the father, Yukio, and their son, Kanata (4 years old). Day 2 of the trial tour begins!

See, Learn, and Observe Japan's Largest Wetland, the Kushiro Wetland!

Let's start Day 2 by observing the mystical nature of the Kushiro Wetland, a Ramsar Convention registered site that spans Tsurui Village, Shibecha Town, Kushiro City, and Kushiro Town!
First, we head to the Onnenai Visitor Center. This is an information station where you can learn about the wetland as it changes with the seasons, so let's gather information about plants and animals that catch your interest.

After gathering information and stepping out of the building, you'll immediately find a wooden boardwalk!
There are well-maintained walking paths for enjoying the Kushiro Wetland, including a barrier-free course of about 2 km and a course of about 3.1 km, both starting from the visitor center. You can choose a route that suits your physical condition and mood.

Walking on the boardwalk

This time, we chose the barrier-free boardwalk course. There are signs here and there that tell you about the depth of the wetland and describe the seasonal plants, allowing you to learn about the wetland while you enjoy it.

It might also be fun to install a plant identification app on your smartphone or tablet and look up plants as you walk.
