Experience the core industry of Tsurui Village, dairy farming! [Workcation with children, Day 3]

I don't want to give up both the precious time I spend with my family and the responsibility and rewarding work I have. This report is about the monitor tour of "Workcation with Children" in Tsurui Village, Hokkaido, which is recommended for people like me! On the third day, let's take a peek into the world of dairy farming, the main industry of Tsurui Village! The participants in this monitor tour were the Niioka family, who live in Sapporo City: mother Yui, father Yukio, and their son Kanata (age 4). The third day of the monitor tour has begun!

Departing from Heart'n Tree, we headed to a ranch in the village.

On the third day, we started the day by taking part in a tour to experience dairy farming, the main industry of Tsurui Village! On this day we get up a little early and leave Heart'n Tree just before 7am to visit a dairy farm within the village.

Ranch

What you will experience here is feeding a calf. Putting on vinyl gloves, you bring a bottle of milk close to the calf's mouth...

Breastfeeding experience

The cows drink milk very hard, so the milk runs out quickly. "If you let the cows suck on your hand, you'll be able to see how strongly they suck, so give it a try if you like!" said a person from the farm. The father put on vinyl gloves and let the cows suck on his fingers, experiencing the strength of their sucking power and the softness of their tongues.

One of the great attractions is being able to interact with the family who runs the farm. We recommend talking to them about life in Tsurui Village and farming!

Let's make cheese with delicious milk from Tsurui Village!

Leaving the ranch behind, we head back to Heart'n Tree. You might even be able to see some red-crowned cranes on the way! Be sure to look out the window as you're rocked along in the car.

Once you return to Heart'n Tree, you will have the opportunity to make string cheese using the delicious freshly squeezed milk produced on the farm where you had your breastfeeding experience!

Sachiko, the owner of Heart'n Tree, will carefully explain the steps and methods for making cheese, so everyone from children to adults can have fun making cheese!

String cheese making

Stretch it repeatedly to make string cheese.

"Can I break the cheese properly?" I try tasting the freshly made cheese. Cheese made together with everyone is so special! I can't stop eating it.

Thank you Tsurui Village! Return to Sapporo

We will return to Sapporo with many memories from Tsurui Village. On the way back, we recommend stopping by a natural hot spring or buying souvenirs. By the time you leave, you'll definitely fall in love with Tsurui Village!

Tsurui Village

We asked the Niino family, who participated in the monitor tour!

The environment of Tsurui Village is exciting and helps children to grow, so I highly recommend it! Through interacting with the villagers, nature, and animals, each family member had the opportunity to feel and think something new. What was impressive was that everyone living in the village was happy for my son's growth and was involved with our family. As a nuclear family, there are not many adults who usually take part in child-rearing, so it was a very happy experience. It was also nice to be able to do some small tasks in an environment surrounded by nature, or take a dip in the hot springs during breaks, and work while changing my mindset. I think "workation with children" is a great way to create memories as a family!

I visited the village without knowing anything about it, but it was a place where I felt a sense of security and warmth, like returning home. What really impressed me about Tsurui Village was that there were people doing what they wanted to do. It wasn't the luxury of having nice things, but the luxury of doing what you want to do. The scenery, the way you spend your time, and the other things I don't have in my life, all gave me the opportunity to reexamine what happiness is. While interacting with the villagers, I was able to catch a glimpse of my son's growth. It was also great to be able to lie down on the grassland as a family and talk around the fire with the villagers. I feel like I'll be coming back here again!

It was so much fun! I was able to feed the cows with milk and catch fish by myself. The goats and dogs started to cling to me and we became like a family. I've come to love Tsurui Village!
