Otaru's "Gâteau Frères" famous for its earthenware pudding, but is it true that its baked goods are actually the best?
Gâteau Frères, a confectionery store located in Zenibako, Otaru City, is a popular destination for both locals and visitors from faraway places. The reason for this is that the shop's impressive "earthenware pudding" has been widely talked about!
However, the owner and chef says that it is actually the baked goods that he wants people to try. ......We paid a visit to find out what this is all about.
The appearance of Gâteau Frères is like a confectionery shop in a picture book. The location near the sea is also somewhat nice: it opened in front of Zenibako Station in 2002 and moved to its current location in 2015.

The owner-chef says, "Baked goods are actually a very deep thing. After all, once you take them out of the oven, they become products as they are, without decorations like cakes. It's because you can't cheat that it's so interesting.
This is exactly how a pastry chef shows his skills. If the baked goods are delicious, it may be no exaggeration to say that the other products are also delicious.
The good thing about baked sweets is that they are individually packaged, making it easy to get your hands on several kinds. By the way, the photo above shows "Octopus Cookies" and "Umineko Cookies. They are engraved with the word "ZENIBAKO," so they make great souvenirs.
