Hokkaido literature was born in the northern part of Japan and has spun out diverse achievements while being exposed to the waves of the times. The Hokkaido Literature Exhibition held in Sapporo in 1966 was a great success, and the Hokkaido Literature Museum was established the following year. Naohiko Kihara (1930-), the first director of the museum, is the author of numerous books on Hokkaido literature.
In 2025, the 30th anniversary of the museum's opening, this exhibition will take up a wide variety of topics through Kihara's eyes to retrace the literature of Hokkaido since the Meiji period.
