This is a special exhibition introducing the world's best-preserved right whale fossil, discovered in Minami-ku, Sapporo. You can also learn about whale fossils that have become new species in Hokkaido and the dramatic evolution of whales. Related workshops and gallery talks by curators will also be held.
■Workshop "Let's study fossils! Make a whale strap"
While looking at a diagram of a whale bone fossil from Koganeyu, try drawing a picture on plastic board, thinking about how the whale's meat and skin are attached! The staff will turn your finished picture into a strap and give it to you. Curator Tanaka, who actually studies fossils, will provide an explanation.
*As a general rule, group participation is not permitted. If you wish to hold a workshop, please check the information regarding group use and contact us.
