Jozankei hot spring town
A beautiful valley and a popular, historic hot spring. "Sapporo's inner sanctum" that continues to fascinate people.
It is a popular hot spring resort in Hokkaido, with approximately 1.2 million guests staying there annually. It is just under an hour's drive south from central Sapporo, making it easy to get to. The spring quality is a sodium chloride spring, which warms you from the core of your body. There are 56 hot springs, and 8,600 liters of water at 60-80°C gush out every minute.
The hot springs were first discovered in 1866 (Keio 2), when the ascetic monk Miizumi Jozan established a hot springs resort. Jozankei is also famous for its scenic beauty. You can encounter beautiful scenery in every season, such as Shiraito Falls, Yunotaki Falls, and Maizurunotora Falls. Get away from the hustle and bustle, take a leisurely walk in nature, and enjoy the hot springs to your heart's content. The Kappa Liner shuttle bus runs 13 times a day from Sapporo Station, Odori, and Susukino (reservations required).
From the bright red Futami Suspension Bridge, which spans the Toyohira River that runs through the hot spring town, you can see Futami Rock and Kappabuchi. Passage beyond the suspension bridge is permitted from late May to the end of October. The valley, dyed in autumn colors, is a sight you definitely want to see.
