Kinmuto

A little-known lake deep in the mountains
Located in the mountains on the east side of Lake Kussharo is a small swamp called "Kimmuto," which is a hidden gem. Kimmuto, meaning "mysterious lake on top of the mountain," is also called "Yunuma" by the locals because of the hot springs that once gushed out around it. This swamp was formed by accumulated rainwater and snowmelt, and a small amount of spring water is also found here.
Kimmuto is located deep in the mountains. The swamp and its surroundings are always quiet and somewhat austere. The absence of any man-made structures in the surrounding area means that there are strong signs of animals, and visitors must be well-equipped with bear repellent spray when walking the approximately 7-km route to the swamp.
The swamp is a small swamp tucked away in the forest and only a few people visit, but in the fall, the golden hues of the trees around it are a spectacular sight. Nearby is a small mountain called "Mt. 2 Io-zan," which emits fumaroles, and "Bokke," where mud gushes out of the ground, making it a magical spot where visitors can experience the heartbeat of the Kussharo Caldera.
