Pom-Pom Mountain
A mountain with high geothermal heat and mysterious sounds
Mt. Pompon, with its entrance at Nibushi Onsen on the shores of Lake Kussharo. It is a small mountain that could be described as a small hill.
The name of this lovely mountain comes from the resonating sound it makes when you stand on top of it and step hard on the ground. It is as if the inside of the mountain is hollow. One of the characteristics of this area is that it has high geothermal heat, which is the reason why there is no snow even in winter. Because of the warmth of the earth, even in the frigid cold season, the crickets, "madarasu tin," chirp and chirp, and the green moss is a wonder to behold.
It is a friendly little mountain, but not many people visit, and the path near the entrance can be difficult to find in the summer. Surrounded by dense greenery, it is a great place for forest bathing, bird watching, and hiking.
*When walking around the area, please be careful of brown bears and wasps.
The road to Pom Pom Mountain has not yet been cleared. Please take safety and risk management measures when entering the mountain.
