Museum Abashiri Prison
The Abashiri Prison Museum is an open-air historical museum that preserves and exhibits buildings that have actually been used at Abashiri Prison since the Meiji era.
It has relocated and restored the architectural complex of Abashiri Prison to the mid-slope of Mount Tento, and is preserving and exhibiting them.
In February 2016, two properties comprising eight buildings, namely the cell block and central watchtower, the administration building, the instruction hall, and the Futamigaoka Prison Branch of Abashiri Prison, were designated as National Important Cultural Properties.
