The Moyoro Shell Mound Museum is a facility that unravels the mysteries of the Okhotsk people, a northern people who appeared and disappeared without a trace approximately 1,300 years ago.
The Moyoro Shell Mound Museum exhibits and introduces the unknown culture of the Okhotsk people, which has been newly uncovered 100 years after the discovery of the Moyoro Shell Mound, based on the themes of "dwellings," "tombs," and "shell mounds," and allows visitors to experience the lifestyle of the Moyoro people. The highlight of the exhibition is the tomb exhibition room, which preserves and exhibits the actual graves that were excavated.
Visitors are encouraged to take a moment to reflect on the rich lifestyle of the Moyoro people, which can be seen through the shell middens.
