Abashiri Fisheries Science Center
Feel the wonder of nature through the lives of fish
The Abashiri Fisheries Science Center was established to promote the coastal and inland fisheries of Abashiri City.
The center conducts research and studies on fisheries enhancement and aquaculture, public education and dissemination, and collection and storage of information on fisheries. The facility is used in various ways, including as a base for research by two institutions: Shimane University's Center for Brackish Water Research and the Abashiri Station attached to the Institute of Low Temperature Science at Hokkaido University.
The "Rivers and Lakes Learning Center," which is located next to the Abashiri Station, provides visitors with information on the origins of Abashiri's rivers and lakes and the state of the fishing industry. Visitors can also observe fish commonly seen in rivers and lakes, and experience the wonder of nature through the lives of fish.
