Prison under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice
It is not a tourist facility.
It was established in 1890 as Kushiro Prison Office, Abashiri Jigyosha Gaiyosho (Abashiri Prison Outside Office). The image of Abashiri as a prison was created by the movie "Abashiri Bangaichi Series" starring Ken Takakura.
Naturally, you cannot visit the inside of the prison.
There is a museum called "Museum Abashiri Jail" in a separate location from "Abashiri Prison.
