Abashiri City is located in the center of Abashiri Quasi-National Park, surrounded by three national parks: Shiretoko (a World Natural Heritage site), Akan, and Daisetsuzan. Near the city center is Mount Tento, a scenic spot offering views of the Shiretoko Mountain Range, creating a lush urban landscape.
Furthermore, the natural scenery of water and greenery is well worth seeing. It is woven together by the Sea of Okhotsk, a treasure trove of fresh seafood; the Abashiri River, which flows through the city; and five lakes of various sizes, including Lake Tofutsu, a Ramsar Convention registered wetland.
