Ability Take Cape

It is a cape jutting out into the Okhotsk Sea, and at its tip, there is only a lighthouse and a management office. From here, to the west are Lake Notoro and the coast of Tokoro Town, to the north is all the Okhotsk Sea, and to the east, the distant Shiretoko Mountain Range can be viewed. In winter, one can see drift ice earliest in Abashiri City, and the view is the best.

Notoro Cape at night, throughout one year, the night becomes pitch dark, so on days with good weather, it becomes the best spot for photographing stars. Depending on the day, many shooting stars can also be observed. If there is equipment of a light to illuminate your feet during movement, it is reassuring. However, because many wild animals such as Ezo red foxes and Ezo deer appear frequently, please be careful.

Notoro Cape Lighthouse, as for its height, from the ground 21m, from sea level 57m, the lighthouse which has become [that state], as for it, is doing a way of shining of one flash of light every 8 seconds, and its light reaches up to approximately 36km. This lighthouse, the first time it was lit was 1917 (Taisho 6th year). As a lighthouse of reinforced concrete construction, it is the oldest one in Hokkaido, and has been continuing to shine for over one century.

The reading "Notoro" derives from "Not-Oro" which means "place of the cape" in the Ainu language. It is also famous as a filming location for things such as Toyota Prius commercials and movies like "Helen the Baby Fox," "The Chef of South Polar," and "How to Make the Targeted Love Fall."
