Kobayashi Sake Brewery/Kitano-Nishiki Memorial Hall
Kobayashi Sake Brewery was founded in 1878 as a sake brewery in Sapporo, and is one of the oldest sake breweries in Hokkaido with the Kitano-Nishiki brand.
It was in 1901 that the company moved its base to this location, where it could use the abundant water of the Yubari River.
Today, the brewery is a pioneer in using Hokkaido rice ahead of other sake breweries, aiming to produce local sake that is made from Hokkaido's people, rice, and water.
The memorial building was designed after the Otaru Bank and completed in 1944, and has been open to the public since 1995, half a century after its construction.
In 2006, it was registered as a national tangible cultural property (building).
In addition to exhibiting approximately 5,000 pieces of sake vessels, fixtures, and personal effects from the history of sake brewing, the brewery offers tours, sake sales, and sake tastings.
Some products, such as limited edition sake from the brewery, are only available here.
