Crawford Park (Mikasa Railway Village, Mikasa Zone)

The park was named after Joseph Uley Crawford, an American who, as an advisor to the history of Hokkaido's development in the early Meiji period, guided the construction of the Horonai Railway for the purpose of coal transportation and introduced American railroad technology to Hokkaido.
Crawford Park in the Mikasa Zone of the Mikasa Railway Village was completed in 1990, using the area around the former Mikasa Station as a new place for citizens to relax. The park, which covers the entire area with grass, includes an azumaya (a small open-air stage), the Horonai Tai station building (later Mikasa Station) that recreates the atmosphere of those days, and a bridge over the tracks that recalls the former Mikasa Station. The outdoor stage is used by amateur bands and other groups.
The open-air stage can be used for various purposes, from small-scale live performances by amateur bands to full-scale concerts. Permission is required to use the stage, so please inquire in advance.
Currently, the Horonai Tai station building also offers a reception desk for experiencing the Mikasa trolley train and sells a variety of railway-related goods.
