Nusamae Bridge
A European-style bridge spanning the lowest reaches of the Kushiro River, and one of Hokkaido's three great famous bridges, alongside Sapporo's Toyohira Bridge and Asahikawa's Asahi Bridge. At twilight, Kushiro Port, dyed by the setting sun, is dazzling, and at night, the bridge's light-up and the town's lights color the river surface... In summer, the bridge's shadow and streetlights floating in the fog are fantastic.
Currently, the Nusamai Bridge connecting the south and north of Kushiro City is the 5th generation completed in Showa 51 (1976), and from the planning stage, citizens participated in image creation, and the main pillars at the four corners of the bridge were left entirely as they were, due to strong requests from citizens. Furthermore, on top of the subsidiary pillars in the middle of the balustrade, bronze statues symbolizing "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter" respectively, created with citizens' donations, were arranged, and it attracted attention as our country's first bridge to have sculptures on the bridge.
The symbol of Kushiro city area, with its diverse expressions, is good for walking across, and also good for viewing.
