Noboribetsu City Museum / Noboribetsu City Cultural Heritage Center

The Noboribetsu City Museum exhibits materials such as old lifestyle tools, natural history materials like Sakhalin fir trees carbonized by the eruption of Mount Kuttara, materials related to the Katakura clan retainers of the Sendai domain who moved to Noboribetsu after 1869, and materials related to Ainu culture.

The building's exterior is modeled after Shiroishi Castle, where the Katakura clan of the Sendai domain resided. The surrounding area features cherry blossoms, including the Gyoiko variety, and autumn leaves, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery of each season.

There are 46 cherry trees of 6 varieties that bloom over the course of a month, delighting visitors. Among them, the rare Gyoiko cherry blossoms, with their pale green petals, are particularly popular.
