Noboribetsu City Local History Museum and Noboribetsu City Cultural Heritage Museum
The Noboribetsu City Local History Museum exhibits old household items, natural history materials such as Japanese Sakhalin fir trees charred by the eruption of Mount Kuttara, materials related to the Katakura clan, samurai of the Sendai domain who moved to Noboribetsu City after 1869, and materials related to Ainu culture.
The exterior of the building is modeled after Shiroishi Castle, which was the residence of the Katakura clan, a samurai of the Sendai domain. The area is surrounded by cherry blossoms such as Goikyo and autumn leaves, allowing you to enjoy the scenery throughout the seasons.
46 cherry trees of six different varieties bloom over the course of a month, delighting visitors. Among them, the rare Gyoiko cherry tree, with its pale green petals, is particularly popular.
