Cape Soya Park (Cape Soya Peace Park)

Cape Soya Park, also known as "Cape Soya Peace Park," was established in December 1966 on a 3.8-hectare site.
At the time of its establishment, it was a small park with only a lighthouse, a naval watchtower, a monument to the northernmost point engraved on a stone pillar, and a few stores.
However, with the increase in the number of tourists, the "Monument to the Northernmost Point of Japan" was rebuilt in 1968, and the "Akebono Statue" was erected on the hillside, and the park was developed as a "tourist attraction. In 1983, after the Korean Airline plane incident, the "Prayer Tower" and the "Kenji Miyazawa Literature Monument" were completed. In 1988, the area around the "Monument to the Northernmost Point of Japan" was renovated and transformed into its current state.
The "Armeria" flowers that can be seen everywhere in the park were originally planted by the women's club of the Soya Fishery Cooperative Association, and now fill the park with beautiful flowers every summer.
The park is also a Wakkanai Footpath Course, where visitors can enjoy the "Circum-Glacial Landforms of the Soya Hills," a Hokkaido Heritage Site, from Cape Soya Park, and finish the course via a "white path" lined with scallop shells.
