SPOT
White Road
The "white road" in the Soya Hills is a 3km long road on the finish side (Soya district side) of the "Soya Hills Footpath Course (total length about 11km)" of the Wakkanai Footpath, made of crushed scallop shells, a specialty of Wakkanai. Since it was first laid in 2011, the contrast between the blue sky and sea, the green flowers and the white road has been amazing, and the scenery that makes you feel like you are not in Japan has become a hot topic, and it has become a tourist spot in Wakkanai that has become increasingly popular in recent years, including on social media.
The 57 windmills, the distant view of Sakhalin (formerly Karafuto), and the 360-degree view of Mt. Rishiri and the Hokkaido Heritage site of periglacial landforms are all worth a visit. *Please be aware that general vehicles also pass through the area, so please be careful when walking. Please refrain from parking in a way that obstructs vehicles and from entering the pastures.
