SPOT
Mt. Ouakan
This 1,371-meter-high mountain rises with an overwhelming presence on the east side of Lake Akan and has been called "Pinneshiri - mountain of men" in Ainu language because of its majestic appearance. The trail starts from the waterfall entrance about 3.5 km from the Akanko Onsen Hot Spring Resort, passing the famous autumnal lakes "Taro" and "Jiro" on the way to the summit, where you can see beautiful lakes such as "Penketo" and "Panketo" below and even the distant Shiretoko mountain range on a fine day. The climbing season is from June to October. The round trip takes about 7 hours.
If you need a climbing map, please visit the Akan Tourist Association or the Akan Lakeside Eco Museum Center.
