Omusaro Ruins Park
Uninterrupted traces of life in each period
Omusaro Ruins Park, a Hokkaido-designated historic site, is located on a hillside near the national highway. The park has traces of life from various periods over a period of 10,000 years, from the early Jomon Period to the post-Jomon Period, the Okhotsk Culture Period, the Abrasive Culture Period, and the Ainu Period. Even today, the remains of 208 pitched dwellings of the indigenous people still remain. There are also remains of northern tribes who crossed the sea of drift ice from faraway Sakhalin.
