Pirikauta Lookout

Pirikauta View from Pirikauta is a small island, Daikoku Island, in the great Pacific Ocean. There used to be a school on the small island, but now only about six fishing families live there during the kelp fishing season. Daikoku Island is uninhabited and is one of the most famous seabird breeding grounds in Japan, and is famous as a breeding ground for the white-throated petrel. In addition, Zenigata seals breed in the coastal area and welcome visitors with their cute faces. However, as a seabird breeding ground, Daikoku Island has been designated a national natural monument and a special bird sanctuary, and permission is required to land on the island.
During the kelp fishing season from July to September, the 400-odd fishing boats that set out from the starting line (at sea) next to the islet head for the fishing grounds simultaneously, creating a spectacular sight that is unparalleled.
