Cape Chikyu
Voices of admiration at the scenic beauty of the cliffs
Cape Chikyu is one of the most scenic spots in Japan, with a series of cliffs about 100 meters high, and on clear days you can see the Pacific Ocean from the observation deck. This area is on the route of migratory birds, and is rich in nature, known as a nesting site for peregrine falcons that target migratory birds.
Muroran City is a manufacturing town that has developed as a port city for heavy chemical industries. It has a strong image as an industrial city, and first-time visitors are amazed at the coastline facing the Pacific Ocean.
It is one of Hokkaido's most popular tourist spots, having been ranked number one in the "Hokkaido's Top 100 Natural Spots," and on New Year's Day it is crowded with locals and tourists from far away alike who come to watch the first sunrise of the year.
