Old Muroran Station Building
Built in 1912, the Old Muroran Station Building is the oldest wooden station building in Hokkaido. It is one of the few buildings in the country that has preserved the architectural style of the Western-style architecture of the Meiji period, with its hipped roof, white walls, and "gangi" arcade Western-style exterior, which is called "irimoya" style.
The station building has a 100-year history and was registered as a national tangible cultural property in 1999, and in 2010, it was designated as a quasi railroad monument by JR Hokkaido. It is currently used as the office of the Muroran Tourist Association, and the hall is open to the public as a venue for exhibitions and other events.
