Otaru City Museum Main Building
The Otaru City Museum Main Building preserves and exhibits 50 of Hokkaido's most famous railroad cars, including the steam locomotive "Shizuka-go".
There is a permanent exhibition introducing the history of Hokkaido's railroads. The museum has a planetarium and a science exhibition room where visitors can learn through experience. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, visitors can also conduct simple experiments and crafts in the Challenge Lab. In addition, the Planning Exhibition Room features exhibits based on various themes such as history, nature, and science.
Locomotive Depot No. 3, an Important Cultural Property former Temiya Railway facility, is open to the public. During the summer season, visitors can ride on the Iron Horse, the oldest dynamically preserved steam locomotive in Hokkaido.
