SPOT
Freepe Falls
Nicknamed "Maiden's Tears"
This waterfall has no river, and the snow and rain that falls on the Shiretoko mountain range percolates underground and flows down through a crack in the vertically sheer cliff about 100 meters high. The waterfall is nicknamed "Maiden's Tears" by the locals because of its resemblance to tears as it trickles down the cliff.
It is a 20-minute walk from the Shiretoko Nature Center along a walking trail.
Please use the parking lot and restrooms at the Shiretoko Nature Center.
During the snow season, trekking on walking skis or snowshoes is possible.
The nearby waterfall has recently been introduced as "Man's Tears," but it is not accessible from the land. Please see it from the sea by a sightseeing boat.
