Kamuiwakka Hot Spring Falls
Kamui Waka, a special place called Kamui Waka, water of God in Ainu language
The area at the foot of Mt. Shiretoko Io-zan, surrounded by the Kamuiwakka River to the Io-gawa River, is called "Kamuiwakka".
The area is best represented by the Kamuiwakka River (Yu no Taki), which is fed by hot springs. The temperature rises as you ascend the river, and at the final destination, "4 Falls," the temperature reaches an exquisitely pleasant 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, making it a magical river.
While splashing water on your body, you will overcome a number of small waterfalls and aim for the upper reaches of the river. It is an exhilarating experience to wade through the river surrounded by virgin forest. The surprise of watching the hot springs bubbling up. The sense of accomplishment of climbing up waterfalls of all sizes. Kamuiwakka is the stage for a rare adventure activity where you can experience the power of the earth.
Kamuiwakka is also the starting point for climbing Shiretoko Io-zan (Mt. Iwo) and the goal of the Shiretoko mountain range traverse. Kamuiwakka is a field for mountaineering and stream climbing, and offers a special experience that you will never forget.
