When entering Esashi city from the direction of Hakodate, the massive gate and large tiled roof standing halfway up the mountain are striking. The temple is one of the six Shinshu Otani sect branch temples in Hokkaido and has a long history. Since its construction about 330 years ago, the temple has suffered three fires. The current building was completed in 1891.
