Former Nakamura Residence
The former Nakamura Residence consists of four buildings, the "main house," "bunko kura," "shimonokura," and "hanedashi," all in a row on a gentle slope facing the "INNESHI-KAIDO" road.
The "main building" and "bunko" were built around 1887, and the "shimonokura" at the end of the Edo period. Hanedashi" is a restored building completed in 1981.
This building was owned by Ubei Ohashi, an Omi merchant during the Meiji period (1868-1912), but was taken over by Yonekichi Nakamura, also from Omi, in 1915.
On December 28, 1971, it was designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
In 1974, the Nakamura family donated the building to Esashi Town.
