Esashi Hakkatsu

In May of the 4th year of the Koka Era (1847), a Gakkai was held to compose a poem about the "Esashi Hakkatsu," a place with a spectacular view.
The eight poems by Rai Sanjusaburo (Jyu), Sakae Nittai, Nishikawa Yong, Honda Kaku, Yanase Zonai, Hara Motokei, Takano Satsuna, Saito Ogusu (Kankai), and others were written by Rai Sanjusaburo and presented to Saito Ogusu, who dedicated the plaque to Ubajin Shrine as a prayer for the prosperity of Esashi Port.
This monument was erected to commemorate the poetic works of the eight poets and to pass on the glory of Esashi to future generations.
