Kongoji Temple
Kongoji Temple is located on a slightly elevated hill in Nakauka-cho overlooking the Sea of Japan. The history of the temple dates back to 1624 A.D., but it has suffered three fires, and the current main hall was built in 1889.
In addition to the "Mokuigibutsu" (Mokuigui Buddha), which is designated as a Tangible Folk Cultural Property by the town, the main hall preserves many works of high cultural value, including the statue of the Holy Kannon, which is open to the public only on July 17, and the Ten Kings (pictures of Hell and Paradise), which are on display from July 17 to the end of August.
