Toribetsu Coastal Forest
Pleasant walking trail through the coastal disaster prevention forest
Toribetsu Coastal Forest is a 171-hectare coastal disaster prevention forest that stretches along the Okhotsk coast. Created to prevent storm surge and salt damage from the Sea of Okhotsk, the Toribetsu Coastal Forest was started in 1937 and has continued to expand year by year.
A 1.7-kilometer-long promenade has been established inside the forest. Visitors can enjoy various views and learn about the role of the coastal disaster prevention forest in 30 to 40 minutes, including a "Kaigan-dori" walk along the sandy beach of the Toribetsu Coast and a "Forest Bathing Path" through the disaster prevention forest and the natural forest remaining on the inland side.
At the gazebo located 170 meters from the entrance of the trail, visitors can enjoy an open view of the magnificent Sea of Okhotsk, and snowshoe tours are offered to take visitors down to the beach to see the drift ice up close, as the drift ice comes ashore on the coast of Toribetsu in February and March.
On a clear day, it is a hidden walking spot where you can enjoy forest bathing and wonderful scenery.
