Former Main Building of Hokkaido Government Office (Akarenga Government Building)
Let's go on a short trip to feel the history♪
The building is closed until March 2025 for renovation work.
For details, please see here [https://www.pref.hokkaido.lg.jp/sm/sum/sk/72039.html].
Looking west from Kita 3-jo Dori in Sapporo, the imposing Hokkaido Government Office Building stands at the end of the street. Built in 1888 in the American neo-baroque style, with distorted glass made in the Meiji era, it is a historic building that served the Hokkaido government for about 80 years until the new government building was constructed. The distorted glass and other features made in the Meiji era give visitors the feeling of stepping back in time.
The museum is open to the public free of charge and displays materials tracing the history of Hokkaido. After a stroll, be sure to check out some of the gourmet spots in the area.
Although the museum is located in the heart of the city, you can enjoy the four seasons in the beautiful garden. With cherry blossoms and lilacs in the spring, lush greenery and Japanese honeysuckle in the summer, and autumn leaves in the fall, this spot offers a different look each season, making it a place you will want to visit again and again. It is also a popular photo spot among citizens.
