SPOT
This 16.7 meter high monument was erected in 1931 at Cape Aonae, located at the southern tip of Okushiri Island. The monument, inscribed with the words "Virtue for the World," survived the tsunami that caused extensive damage in the wake of the Hokkaido Southwest Offshore Earthquake, and has remained a symbol of Cape Aonae even after the disaster.
