SPOT
Kumakoshi no Taki Waterfall
As the name suggests, "Kumakoshi no Taki" is a waterfall because a bear crossed it.
The story of the origin of the name is written on a signboard near the waterfall, so please visit the site and read it.
The fall is about 15 m in height, and the volume of water is large, making it a very powerful waterfall. You can visit the waterfall on the boardwalk, but you can also enjoy wild trees and flowers along the way. There is a waterfall viewing platform from which you can see the upper reaches of the falls, but it is also possible to go further along the trail for a full view.
Snowshoeing is also possible to see the waterfall in winter.
The starting point is the Shiretoko Rausu Visitor Center, so it is recommended that you ask the staff for information and precautions before heading to the falls (especially information on brown bears).
