Ishiyama Ryokuchi
Trace the fascination of Sapporo soft stone, a Hokkaido Heritage
Ishiyama, Minami-ku, Sapporo, used to be the production site of Sapporo soft stone, which was considered the best material for building materials. Ishiyama Ryokuchi is the site of a huge quarry that was once used to produce Sapporo soft stone, which was ideal for building materials.
The park consists of the "North Block," a nature-rich recreation area for citizens with an observation terrace and tennis courts, and the "South Block," an artistically landscaped area that makes use of the quarry site with its exposed rock face. The park is a fusion of nature and art, and has been selected as one of the "100 Selected Hometown Cultures".
The "South Block" was designed by the sculptor group CINQ. The park is characterized by a fusion of natural stone formations and works of art, creating a highly artistic space that cannot be seen anywhere else.
