Shintotsukawa Town, located almost in the center of Sorachi, is situated on the right bank of the Ishikari River. The Tokugawa River flows through the approximate center of the town, and Mt. Pinneshiri, a symbolic mountain of Shintotsukawa, has an elevation of 1100 meters. It is a region surrounded by abundant nature.
The town is very accessible, located 50 minutes by limited express train from Sapporo, 1 hour and 30 minutes by limited express from Chitose, and 30 minutes by limited express from Asahikawa. The Sassho Line runs through Shintotsukawa Town, and railway fans from all over the country visit "Shintotsukawa Station," the final stop for Japan's earliest last train of the day.
Shintotsukawa is a prosperous rice-producing area. They cultivate rice varieties such as Nanatsuboshi and Yumepirika with great care, under the motto of safety, security, and high quality. The area of rice cultivation in Shintotsukawa Town is among the largest in Hokkaido, and its sake rice cultivation area is number one in Hokkaido. The Japanese sake produced at Kinteki Shuzo brewery uses rice from Shintotsukawa and is known for having many fans both domestically and internationally, even being served in JAL's first class.
