Long, long ago, when this Ishikari Plain was a sea, the indigenous people who were in this vicinity were calling this mountain "a house-shaped mountain," that is to say, Chiseneshiri.
One time, a great storm attacked this sea, and the people seemed about to be swept away by the waves, but by God's protection, they escaped to the mountain and were saved. The people thought that there was strength like a male god and kindness like a female god, and came to call the high mountain Otokoyama (Pinneshiri) and the low mountain Onnayama (Matsuneshiri).
