Even beginners can have fun! Experience wakasagi (smelt) fishing 30 minutes from Sapporo Station with nothing to do!
Speaking of wakasagi fishing, you may have the image of fishing on a very cold lake, drilling holes in dozens of centimeters of ice, and enduring the cold in the great outdoors. In fact, there are spots in the suburbs of Sapporo where you can enjoy wakasagi fishing. And you don't need any special equipment to enjoy it! Let's take a look at the actual experience!
Wakasagi fishing is available at a place called Ibaradogawa River. It takes about 30 minutes by car from Sapporo Station to "Torette Hut Fujii Farm Wakasagi Fishing Site". Buses are also available from Sapporo Terminal, so visitors from outside of Hokkaido can also go there for sightseeing!
In the severe winter season of January, the ice on the Ibaradogawa River reaches a thickness of 50 cm. On that ice, vinyl houses used on farms are modified and set up as rest houses, and we can enjoy wakasagi fishing in a comfortable environment.
In addition, it is possible to rent all the necessary equipment here. For safety reasons, it is necessary to wear warm clothes and winter shoes, but you can visit without anything else. There are also restrooms at the reception area.
After renting fishing rods and other necessary equipment, it is time to go inside the rest house!
Several holes have already been drilled and you can hang your fishing line here. For first-timers, a guide can be provided.
After dropping the fishing line and waiting for a while, you will see .......
The fishing rod twitches, and you pull it up just in time. Then a cute wakasagi appeared!
The wakasagi we caught are put into the bucket more and more. This is fun!
There is also a corner where you can have your caught wakasagi tempura for an additional fee. Freshly fried wakasagi tastes really good, along with the sense of accomplishment that you caught it yourself.
Just around the corner, the farm restaurant Vegeta Beale offers a menu featuring wakasagi. Stop by on your way home for even more delicious wakasagi.
The Tarete Hut Fujii Farm also has a section for snow activities such as banana boating! Families and friends can play here all day long.
