Genghis Khan (Jingisukan) is a classic Hokkaido gourmet dish. And we Hokkaido locals know that with Genghis Khan comes a certain "magic sauce"...

This sauce is so well-known in Hokkaido that for many, its flavor is synonymous with Genghis Khan itself. Even if you're busy with work and chores, as long as you have this, you can whip up a "Genghis Khan Donburi" (rice bowl) in no time.

Today, I'll show you how to make a super easy, time-saving rice bowl using this "magic sauce"!

So, when we talk about the "magic sauce" for Genghis Khan, this is it: Bell Foods' "Genghis Khan (Jingisukan) Tare." You can find it in any supermarket in Hokkaido. A 360ml bottle is reasonably priced at 372 yen (tax included). Now, let's get cooking!

First, heat some oil in a frying pan and stir-fry the vegetables. Once they're mostly cooked, add the lamb.

Sauté the lamb until it's just about done to your liking, then pour in the sauce—no need to measure, just eyeball it.

The sizzling sound from the pan is enough to make your mouth water, but hold on a little longer. Toss the vegetables and lamb to coat them evenly with the sauce. When the meat is cooked to your preference, turn off the heat and pile everything on top of a bowl of hot rice...

And it's done!

The sauce is soy-sauce based with a pleasant acidity, blended with aromatic vegetables and spices. The garlic in the sauce helps to mellow the distinct flavor of the lamb, and its sweet and savory taste soaks into the vegetables like bean sprouts and the rice, making it incredibly moreish. This is why it's called the "magic sauce."

This time, I also added "Gyoja Ninniku" (also known as Kitopiro or alpine leek), a spring delicacy in Hokkaido, for an extra stamina boost. You can add any vegetables you like. It's an easy way to get your nutrients, and the hearty portion of meat is guaranteed to leave you feeling completely satisfied.

For those who want to try it but don't live in Hokkaido, you can purchase it from the Bell Foods online shop. The new fiscal year has started, and you might be feeling the fatigue of a new routine. When that happens, recharge and recover with this easy Genghis Khan Donburi made with "Genghis Khan Tare"!
