A Hokkaido Coffee Shop's Decision to Reduce Hours Goes Viral for a Heartfelt Reason
KINUBARI COFFEE ROASTERS Opened in November 2022
KINUBARI COFFEE ROASTERS was opened in Kamikawa Town in 2022 by Emimaru Kinubari, a native of Yubetsu, Hokkaido. As a university student, Mr. Kinubari traveled through Southeast Asia and became fascinated by guesthouses. He helped launch one that had a specialty coffee bean shop on the first floor, which is how he discovered the charm and depth of coffee.

The Decision to Shorten Hours: "To Not Give Up on Living"
KINUBARI COFFEE ROASTERS initially operated from 10:00 to 19:00. However, starting in June 2023, the hours were changed to 11:00-17:00 from Tuesday to Thursday, and 11:00-20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. The main reason for this was "to not give up on living." Mr. Kinubari wrote about his reasons on the blogging platform note, and his post received a huge response.
Eating dinner with my family,
Doing laundry every day,
Cleaning and tidying the house,
Watching a movie at home and relaxing.
To not give up on these ordinary things,
To not give up on "living,"
I decided to rethink the way I work.
