"Hokkaido Anywhere Bon Odori with Domingo" After-Event Report!
In this article, we'll be sharing an after-event report on the "Hokkaido Anywhere Bon Odori with Domingo," which took place from 5:00 PM on Saturday, August 8th to 10:00 PM on Sunday, August 16th!
Please enjoy this full recap of our "socially distanced Bon Odori," an event made possible precisely because we can't gather in large groups right now!
What is "Hokkaido Anywhere Bon Odori with Domingo"?
"Hokkaido Anywhere Bon Odori with Domingo" is, in a nutshell, a "socially distanced Bon Odori" unique to the COVID-19 era.
It was an innovative project that allowed anyone with an internet connection to watch the Bon Odori music and video on their smartphone or PC at the same time, enabling them to perform the Bon Odori simultaneously with others, anytime and anywhere.
The music played was the local folk tune "Kodomo Bon Odori Uta," famous for its "Shanko shanko♪" chant, in a special "Hatsune Miku" version created just for this event. To make it easy for beginners to dance along, we also produced a video featuring 'Rabbit Yukine,' 'Snow Miku,' and our staff Bon dancers.
By the way, the video was filmed at the "Hokkaido Gurutto Theater," and some of the filming crew, who had grown up with this familiar music, couldn't help but start dancing along...!

Now, let's take a look at how everyone enjoyed the event!
Reactions on Social Media
On Twitter, many people used the hashtag #北海道どこでも盆踊り to share their participation and thoughts.
The comedy duo Koroneken from Yoshimoto Sapporo danced using the Hokkaido Anywhere Bon Odori,
and the Sapporo Online Summer Festival posted a video of them dancing on Twitter.

And there were many more,
People danced and had fun with their children, some wore handmade 'Rabbit Yukine' masks and 'Hatsune Miku' happi coats, someone from outside Hokkaido practiced for a week before dancing, another used "Kodomo Bon Odori Uta" as background music while making breakfast, feeling nostalgic, and some even posted illustrations to support the Anywhere Bon Odori...
...It seems everyone enjoyed the event in their own unique way! Thank you all for participating!!
We are so happy that we could have fun with everyone, from children to adults, in various places!!
Small-Scale In-Person Event Held
Furthermore, with infection control measures in place, a small-scale in-person event using the "Hokkaido Anywhere Bon Odori with Domingo" was also held!
The event was hosted by the guesthouse "Genius Loci ga Tabi wo Shita" in Ebetsu City. It's a brand-new guesthouse that just opened this summer in the "Oasa Ginza Shopping Street," a place loved by many for its blend of old and new.
The Bon Odori was held on the first floor of the guesthouse, in an open space where local residents and travelers can gather.
On the day of the event, a PC and projector were used to create a setup where everyone could enjoy the Bon Odori on a large screen.

When the scheduled start time arrived, children and their parents from the neighborhood began to appear...!
As the first person started dancing, another joined in... and soon, both children and adults were enjoying the Bon Odori together, watching the video of Snow Miku and Rabbit Yukine dancing.

There was a girl who was initially too shy to be the first to dance, but ended up having so much fun she didn't want to go home.
Another girl found that just watching wasn't enough, and once she started dancing, she didn't want to stop either.
A boy, who said he was just there for the snacks, danced with a huge smile and full of energy until the very end.
And the adults, who started hesitantly, trying to recall memories from their childhood... but as they repeated the moves, they danced with confidence and joy.
All of these scenes were reminiscent of a traditional Bon Odori, making it a very enjoyable event.
To everyone who enjoyed the event, thank you so much for participating!
And to the staff of "Genius Loci ga Tabi wo Shita," thank you for your cooperation in holding the event!
