"Let's Enjoy the Uncertain, Vague, and Unknown Future" NoMaps 2020 Kicks Off!
This year's NoMaps Conference will be held online for the first time ever!
A variety of sessions and meetups in a new format, accessible from anywhere in the country, will be streamed.
Here, we'll introduce the overview of NoMaps 2020 and highlight some of the most anticipated sessions!
What is NoMaps 2020?

"NoMaps" is a convention for people with a "modern-day frontier spirit" who seek to create the next society through creative ideas and technology in the symbolic pioneering land of Sapporo and Hokkaido.
It aims to enhance the creativity of not only the people gathered but also those living in this land, to carve out new territories not yet drawn on any map.
The "NoMaps Conference" will host about 40 talk sessions over five days, covering everything from global businesses to new local initiatives and ideas.
The talk themes cover a wide range of genres, including education, tourism, entertainment, and technology.

Introducing 3 Featured Sessions!
Out of the approximately 40 sessions being streamed, we've picked three that are drawing particular attention!
1. Harmony Between Civic Life and Technology

Date & Time: October 14th (Wed) 13:00–13:50
This is the opening session featuring Taiwan's Digital Minister, Audrey Tang, who has gained global attention for her COVID-19 countermeasures using digital technology, such as the "Mask Map." In this session, Ms. Tang will discuss her vision for the harmony between technology and civic life, and the future.
2. What Kind of New Elementary School Education is Needed for the Future?

Date & Time: October 14th (Wed) 20:00–20:50
This session from the NoMaps EDU series addresses the theme, "What is the future of education?" a question brought to the forefront by the COVID-19 pandemic. Kensuke Tanaka, Special Advisor for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, who announced plans to establish a private elementary school in Sapporo, will take the stage. He will discuss the vision for the new elementary school education that will be required in the future.
3. Designing the "Work Style Shift" from Cities to Rural Areas: For Individuals, Entrepreneurs, and Communities

Date & Time: October 15th (Thu) 16:00–16:50
This session series focuses on the keyword "working" in the future. With the introduction of telework, location-independent work styles are rapidly becoming mainstream. The session will explore what rural areas and Hokkaido should do to seize the opportunity of this labor shift to the regions, from the perspectives of individuals, companies, and communities.

In addition to the conference, various other events will be held, such as the "Sapporo International Short Film Festival," celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, and "SYNCHRONICITY 2020," an entertainment experiment that synchronizes the city with music.
