NoMaps, an IT-centered event for new business creation, will be held in Sapporo, Japan, for five days from October 14 to 18. This year's NoMaps conference will be held online for the first time! A number of sessions and meetups will be delivered in a new format that can be attended from anywhere in Japan. In this issue, we will provide an overview of the NoMaps2020 event and the sessions that are particularly noteworthy!

What is NoMaps2020?

"NoMaps" is a convention for those with a "modern frontier spirit" who want to create the next society through creative ideas and technology in the symbolic frontier region of Sapporo and Hokkaido. The "NoMaps Conference" will be held over 5 days with about 40 talks on topics ranging from global businesses to new local initiatives and ideas. Among the 40 or so sessions that will be delivered, we have picked out three sessions that are particularly noteworthy!

1. Harmonizing Civic Life and Technology 市民生活とテクノロジーの調和

Date: Wednesday, October 14, 13:00-13:50 This opening session welcomes Taiwan's Minister of Digital Affairs Audrey Tan, who has attracted global attention with her COVID-19 countermeasure "Mask Map" and other digital technologies. In this session, we will hear Audrey's thoughts on the harmony between technology and civic life, and the future.

2. What is the new elementary school education that will be required in the future? これから求められる新しい小学校教育とは?

Date and Time: Wednesday, October 14, 20:00-20:50 "What is the New Education Required in the Future?" to be asked again at the Corona Disaster is the theme of the NoMaps EDU series. Mr. Kensuke Tanaka, Special Advisor to the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, who has announced plans to establish a private elementary school in Sapporo, will speak at this session. He will discuss the new type of elementary school education that will be required in the future.

3. Designing a "Work Style Shift" from Urban to Rural Areas: Individuals, Entrepreneurship, and Towns 都市から地方への働き方シフトのデザイン~個人、起業、そしてまち~

Date: Thursday, October 15, 16:00-16:50 This session series focuses on the future of "work. With the introduction of telework, the location-independent work style is rapidly spreading. This session will consider what local regions and Hokkaido should do to take advantage of this opportunity to shift the labor force to local areas, from the perspectives of individuals, companies, and towns.
