This summer, Hokkaido is packed with exciting fireworks displays that will light up the night sky! There are plenty of noteworthy fireworks displays, including the Hakodate Port Festival, which will be set off to the music of GLAY, the 10,000 fireworks at Sapporo Bankei, and the first-ever Otaru Takashima Fireworks. We've carefully selected some of the best fireworks displays in Hokkaido, perfect for summer vacation or Obon outings.

The Hakodate Port Festival, a representative summer event in Hakodate, is the city's biggest festival, attracting a lot of attention. The 70th Doushin Fireworks Display, held on the first day of the festival, is a five-part program. Various fireworks, including wide star mines, impressive shakudama fireworks, special fireworks, and underwater fireworks, are launched in time with music, and in the third part, fireworks are launched in time with the music of the local Hakodate rock band GLAY.

The "Tomamin Tomakomai Centennial Fireworks" is held in the fishing port district and adds excitement to the Tomakomai Port Festival, which is held every summer. The fireworks, set off against the backdrop of the pitch-black sea, are truly a sight to behold.

This fireworks festival takes place at Sapporo Bankei Ski Resort, which is bustling with skiers and snowboarders in the winter. During the day, there are food trucks, festivals, street performances, and music festivals. At night, approximately 10,000 fireworks sparkle in the Bankei night sky.

This festival features spectacular fireworks that can only be enjoyed at Tokachi Port, a port in Hiroo Town. Its famous features include Chinese fireworks that are launched up close and gorgeous underwater fireworks that look like flowers blooming on the surface of the sea. Other attractions include Yosakoi Soran dance performances, taiko drumming, food stalls, a sea breeze sauna festival, and events for children, making this Tokachi summer festival perfect for an outing with your family or partner.

The Iwanai Doto Festival is a port town-style festival featuring a variety of fresh seafood, music, dance, and other stage events. The fireworks display, which begins at 8:00 PM on the second day, will feature approximately 5,000 fireworks set off over Iwanai Port.

The first "Otaru Takashima Fireworks" will be held this year, five years after the "Takashima Fishing Port Summer Fireworks Festival" that once brightened up the summer in Takashima, Otaru. This new fireworks festival is being held in response to requests to "see fireworks in Takashima again." Approximately 4,000 fireworks are planned to be launched, including underwater fireworks and fireworks with prayers for the dead and a good catch.

It is also popular as Hokkaido's largest fireworks festival, attracting approximately 200,000 visitors, making it a major summer event. The synchronized fireworks, music, and lighting are popular, and the highly entertaining show captivates visitors. At the finale, the traditional Nishiki Kamuro fireworks fill the night sky, bringing the festival to a fantastic close.

Mikasa's famous Bon Odori festival, where live singing and music reverberate from an 8-meter-tall tower, is also a highlight with its fireworks. On the first day, Wednesday the 13th, a "small fireworks display" will be held from 6:45 PM, and on the final day, Friday the 15th, a summer fireworks display will be held from 7:00 PM, followed by a finale fireworks display at 8:30 PM.

This fireworks display combines the fireworks of fishing boats floating in the Tsugaru Strait with the fireworks. Don't miss the unique fireworks, such as the squid-shaped ones, which are so characteristic of Hakodate. In addition to the power of the fireworks seen by the sea, the view of the lights of the inn district and the fireworks by the sea seen from Yukawa Fishing Port is also highly recommended and truly Hakodate-like.
