New Opening in Toyohira Ward! "kissa kondo," a Baked Goods Cafe with Flavors from Around the World
In March 2025, the baked goods specialty shop "kissa kondo" quietly opened in a residential area of Toyohira Ward, Sapporo. Marked by its yellow sign, this new establishment is gradually gaining buzz among locals as a go-to spot for casual baked treats.
A Colorful Array of Baked Goods in the Showcase
About 10 types of baked goods are available daily
A variety of baked goods are offered according to the season. Among the most popular are the gluten-free rice flour muffins. Made with rice oil instead of butter, they remain soft and fluffy even when cooled.

The classic "Blueberry and Rare Cheesecake Rice Flour Muffin" perfectly balances the tartness of berries with rich cheese. The "Corn and Custard Rice Flour Muffin" offers a delightful combination of Hokkaido's signature corn aroma and gentle sweetness.

A Drink Menu Featuring Coffee and Matcha Lattes
Coffee beans are also for sale. Blend: 1100 yen/100g, Cold Brew: 2200 yen for 5 servings (175g)
The drink menu also shines with carefully selected options. The specialty coffee from "Allpress Espresso," popular in New Zealand, is a rare treat that can only be enjoyed at a few places in Sapporo. Its clean aftertaste and vibrant aroma pair perfectly with the baked goods. Other options include lattes made with soy or oat milk, decaf coffee, a matcha latte using Uji matcha from Sapporo's long-established "Gyokusuien," and a chai latte made with homemade syrup, offering a wide variety of choices.
The cozy eat-in space is bright with large windows.
A Friendly Neighborhood Shop for Everyday Enjoyment
The yellow sign is its landmark.
Located in a corner of a residential area, "kissa kondo" has a welcoming atmosphere perfect for a daily snack or a small treat. While it's a great stop for tourists, it's set to become a beloved neighborhood spot for locals. You can take your treats home to enjoy slowly or share them with friends and family.
"kissa kondo": Born from the Owner's Passion
Owner Sayuri Oshima. The name "kondo" comes from her maiden name.
The creator of "kissa kondo" is Sayuri Oshima. With experience visiting about 20 countries, primarily in Europe through programs like working holidays, she would recreate the sweets she encountered abroad with her own twist for her friends, earning rave reviews for their deliciousness. "At cafes overseas, even small shops always had gluten-free or vegan options. I wanted to bring sweets that cater to diverse lifestyles to Japan as well," says Oshima. "kissa kondo" is the embodiment of that desire.
These sweets, which offer a taste of foreign lands while also valuing Hokkaido's local ingredients, make for great souvenirs. Check their official Instagram for the latest information.
