- The festival runs until October 4 (Saturday). Let's go to the Sapporo Autumn Fest!
4-chome: Hakodate Motomachi Carl Raymon House's "Currywurst"
Entrance to the 4-chome venue
The Odori Park 4-chome venue is the "IN4 Square," the gateway to the Autumn Fest. It's always bustling, with many people drawn in as they pass by. It's the perfect spot to grab a light snack or dessert while looking at the map and planning your route through the expansive festival grounds.
"Hakodate Carl Raymon Currywurst" (1,000 yen)
Here, we tried the "Hakodate Carl Raymon Currywurst" (1,000 yen). Currywurst is a popular German street food and a favorite at events in Sapporo, like the Munich Christmas Market.
A flavor that pairs perfectly with a fizzy alcoholic drink
The savory, herb-infused sausage is topped with a mildly spicy ketchup and curry powder. Served with fluffy potatoes, it's a satisfyingly hearty dish. We enjoyed it with a Lemon Sour (500 yen), but it would also go great with a Sapporo Classic Draft Beer (700 yen).
5-chome: Sapporo Curry Kingdom's "3-Curry Set"
Entrance to the 5-chome venue
Odori Park 5-chome is the "Hokkaido BAKU BAKU PARK," featuring famous ramen and curry shops. The north side of the venue hosts the "HOKKAIDO RAMEN FESTIVAL 2025 in Sapporo," while the south side has the "Sapporo Curry Kingdom." Both operate on a system where you buy tickets at a vending machine and exchange them at the respective booths.
The Sapporo Curry Kingdom booths
While the ramen is extremely popular, we opted for the "3-Curry Set" (1,650 yen) from Sapporo Curry Kingdom. You can choose any three types of curry from four different booths to create your own custom combination plate.
Some people enjoy mixing the three curries together.
We chose "E-itou Curry's" "Ginger Curry with Hokkaido Mochibuta Pork Belly," "CURRY KITCHEN onion's" "Waterless Chicken Curry with 17 Spices & Rich Onion," and "Honjitsu no Curry's" "Sapporo Black Keema Curry with the Richness and Umami of Squid Ink." With different curry shops participating daily, you can discover new flavors every time you visit the Curry Kingdom.
6-chome: Kitanokaisen Kushi Koshitsuizakaya Namaraya's "Fried Live Octopus"
Entrance to the 6-chome venue
The 6-chome venue is "6-chome Food & Music Kanadericious!", where you can enjoy food and drink paired with stage performances.
The stage where music events are held
The outdoor stage on the north side hosts various music events on Saturday, Sunday, and holiday evenings throughout the festival. On the opening night, Friday, September 12, we were treated to a live performance by the JGSDF 11th Band.
"Fried Live Octopus" (800 yen)
Here, we had the "Fried Live Octopus" (800 yen) from "Kitanokaisen Kushi Koshitsuizakaya Namaraya." The octopus was tender, juicy, and full of flavor, a true testament to its freshness. The crispy, light batter made it a perfect snack to go with a drink. The venue also has a great selection of sweets, so enjoying music with a snack or dessert is another great option.
7-chome: "Niseko Pizza" and Naganuma Cidre
Entrance to the 7-chome venue
This is the "Odori Park 7-chome BAR," a place to enjoy Hokkaido-made alcoholic beverages and gourmet food. It offers a wide selection of local wines, ciders, craft beers, shochu, and sake.
"Funghi & Salsiccia" (3,000 yen)
At "Niseko Pizza," which draws long lines every year for its pizzas baked in an on-site oven, we had the "Funghi & Salsiccia" (3,000 yen). It featured mozzarella cheese from Kuromatsunai, a generous amount of mushrooms, and a fragrant crust with a refreshing hint of balsamic vinegar—a perfect autumn flavor. The deliciousness fully justifies its popularity and the long queues.
"Naganuma Cidre Tabidori" (900 yen)
You can purchase drinks to pair with your food at the "Odori Park 7-chome BAR," which is split into east and west sections. We chose the "Naganuma Cidre Tabidori" (900 yen) from MAOI Winery in Naganuma Town. It was crisp and clean, with a refreshing apple flavor.
Non-alcoholic "Shine Muscat Soda" (1,300 yen)
In addition to Hokkaido wines and beers, the venue offers a great selection of cute and tasty non-alcoholic drinks like the "Shine Muscat Soda" (1,300 yen), so even those who don't drink alcohol can have a great time.
8-chome: Setana Town's "Uni Gohan (Sea Urchin Rice)"
Entrance to the 8-chome venue
The 8-chome venue is the "Sapporo Odori Hokkaido Market," which gathers specialties from municipalities across Hokkaido. You'll find Autumn Fest classics like Mombetsu City's "Grilled Snow Crab on the Shell" (1,200 yen), Furubira Town's "Grilled Kokanee Salmon" (600-1,000 yen), and Tomakomai City's "Hokki (Surf Clam) Curry" (1,500 yen).
Setana Town's "Uni Gohan" (1,500 yen)
Faced with a traffic jam of delicious options, we chose the "Uni Gohan" (1,500 yen) from Setana, a town in southern Hokkaido. This luxurious dish is topped with a generous amount of Murasaki uni (purple sea urchin) from Setana, offering a rich taste of the sea.
Loaded with Murasaki uni!
The fluffy sea urchin is subtly sweet and aromatic. The rice, having absorbed all the umami, is perfectly complemented by the pickled red ginger on the side. Many items at the 8-chome venue are available for a limited time, making it a place for once-in-a-lifetime culinary encounters. Also, popular dishes can sell out by the evening, so it's best to go early.
10-chome: Yakiniku Minahot Shinkin-gyu Itto-gai's "Beef Rump Steak"
Entrance to the 10-chome venue
"Meat Jutt-chome: Connecting Producers and You" brings together famous meat restaurants, offering beef, pork, lamb, and chicken, primarily from Hokkaido. The delicious aroma of grilling meat wafts from the entrance.
"Beef Rump Steak" (1,600 yen)
Zangi and Genghis Khan are tempting, but we were craving a hearty beef steak! So, we chose the "Beef Rump Steak" (1,600 yen) from "Yakiniku Minahot Shinkin-gyu Itto-gai."
Tender with a satisfying chew, giving you that 'I've eaten meat' feeling.
Grilled to order, the steak was juicy with the pleasant chew characteristic of lean meat. The zesty whole-grain mustard was a perfect accent, pairing excellently with beer or red wine. The venue, with its wooden tables and low chairs, has a fun outdoor vibe. It felt like enjoying a barbecue at a campsite, with a wonderful sense of openness.
11-chome: Chef's Kitchen "Semina Chef Tanaka's Stewed Veal"
Entrance to the 11-chome venue
Wrapping things up is 11-chome, the "PRECIOUS TABLE," which offers a more sophisticated experience. The popular Chef's Kitchen allows you to savor dishes from Sapporo's most renowned chefs at reasonable prices, starting from 1,000 yen.
The Chef's Kitchen menu is best enjoyed with a drink.
On the opening days, the 12th and 13th, the featured chef was Chef Tanaka from the Sapporo Italian restaurant "Semina." We had the "Stewed Veal from Mr. Nonaka in Setana with Kuriyama Polenta" (1,000 yen) and a glass of "Sparkling Wine" (1,100 yen).
"Stewed Veal from Mr. Nonaka in Setana with Kuriyama Polenta" (1,000 yen)
The veal was so tender it fell apart the moment a fork touched it. Served with polenta that captured the savory flavor of Kuriyama corn, it was a dish with a gentle yet profound taste. The Chef's Kitchen is a fantastic and affordable way to experience the cuisine of famous restaurants. It might even inspire you to visit the actual restaurants themselves.
The festival runs until October 4 (Saturday). Let's go to the Sapporo Autumn Fest!
Venue map at the entrance of the 4-chome venue
The Sapporo Autumn Fest venue is very large, stretching about 1 km in length. To see everything, it's best to move in one direction, either from 4-chome towards 11-chome or vice versa. As this is a popular event, finding a place to sit can be difficult depending on the time of day. Be prepared for the possibility of eating at standing tables and for a lot of walking through crowded areas. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and walking shoes.
※All prices include tax.
