Hageten was founded in Otaru in 1934. After relocating to Obihiro, they started serving butadon with the hope that it would become a local specialty, and it became a hot topic. Word of mouth spread, and before long, it became their signature dish.
Currently, there are two types of butadon: one with four slices of pork loin (1,000 yen, tax incl.) and one with six slices (1,430 yen, tax incl.). While you wait for your order, the aroma of the secret sauce grilling tickles your nose and builds anticipation. When the butadon arrives at your table, the beautiful, glossy sheen is a sight to behold!
The tender, flavorful pork and the sweet and savory sauce that coats it are an irresistible combination. It's a very simple dish, but it has a taste that any Japanese person would love. The fact that it comes with pickles and soup is also a nice touch. ...However, despite the popularity of their butadon, this is still a tempura shop. And as you'd expect, their tempura is also exquisite.
